The soil of Roquessels has produced quality wines for hundreds of years. In the XVI th century, Lords fixed their taxes on the benefit of the vineyards. In the XVII th century, a document presented the wines of the mountains as quality wines.
Chapelle de Roquessels
The guaranteed vintage (A.O.C. : Appellation d'Origine
Contrôlée) was created in 1982. The Domain of Estève,
situated in Roquessels is one off the seven villages with the AOC Faugères
and it has existed for several generations. The commercialization of this
wine has been very private for many years but after the exellent vintages
of 86, 88, 89, 91, 95, 98 its reputation has become a well known secret between
connoisseurs. The Estève family is the owner of the wine-cellar of
the castle of Adouzes since the end of the XIX th century, they made the best vintages
known under the name of Château des Adouzes. Situated within the little
village of Castelsec, shire of Roquessels, the castle of Adouzes is a Middle
Age castle (Xith or XIIth century). Nowadays you can still visit a vestige of that time :
the North entrance of the castle.
